Mark Sanchez Will Reportedly Miss Rest of OTAs After Suffering Knee Injury on Tuesday

Chicago Bears News, Chicago Bears Transactions

Quarterback Connor Shaw was as good as gone this morning, as the Chicago Bears announced he was waived in order to officially make room for wide receiver Victor Cruz. However, the Bears had a sudden change of heart in the afternoon, waiving undrafted free agent wide receiver Jhajuan Seales instead.

So why the sudden change? A knee injury to backup Mark Sanchez:

Sanchez suffered a knee injury on Tuesday, an injury that will force the veteran quarterback to miss the rest of OTAs and mini-camp, according to Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune. Campbell was a part of the assembled media who saw the injury, but tweets that reporters were prohibited from reporting on it because of the team’s media policy.

Campbell adds that Sanchez is expected to be ready for training camp. But with Sanchez out of the mix, Shaw resumes third-string quarterback duties for the time being. The University of South Carolina product will get a second chance to prove he has some staying power with the Bears, an organization who picked him up in an odd set of circumstances back in July 2016.

It’s just the latest peculiar scenario for Shaw … and the Bears.
