Worst Challenge Ever: Benny Cunningham’s Huge Gain Ends With Packers Getting Ball

Chicago Bears Highlights

The Chicago Bears looked to be in business after a third down screen pass from Mitch Trubisky to Benny Cunningham put the Bears near the goal line. In fact, John Fox challenges the play thinking Cunningham might have scored a touchdown to put the Bears one point away from tying the game.

And here is the questionable call that flipped this game on its ear:

Another week. Another strange reversal from the NFL’s reply team. Just when you thought the league’s officials jumped the shark with the call that overturned Zach Miller’s touchdown and called it an incomplete pass, a new ruling has the Bears up in arms. Because not only did the referees rule Cunningham didn’t score, they decided he fumbled the ball out of the end zone, resulting in a touchback and the Packers getting the ball.

In what has been a sloppy game, losing the ball in that way has further mucked up an absolutely annoying first half.

Two Connor Barth field goals have accounted for all the Bears’ scoring, but settling for field goals instead of touchdowns probably isn’t going to get the job done if Chicago wants to emerge with a win.
