Bears Have “Very Legitimate Chance” at Pulling Off Pass-Catching Dream Scenario in Free Agency

Chicago Bears Rumors, NFL News and Rumors

The Chicago Bears have money to spend, roster spots to fill, and some very specific needs.

At the top of GM Ryan Pace’s shopping list are pass-catching options for quarterback Mitch Trubisky. Less than one year after going all-in on making Trubisky the team’s quarterback of the future, Pace has positioned the organization to surround him with much-needed upgrades on the offensive side of the ball.

Bill Zimmerman (SiriusXM radio, BearGogglesOn) offers up what we would consider to be a dream scenario on the first day of the NFL’s legal tampering period:

Yes. Please. Also yes please.

We have had our eyes on Allen Robinson, Albert Wilson, and Trey Burton for quite some time. All three would be positional fits who also are also young enough to be part of a budding Bears core. And each player would represent an upgrade compared who was in each of those roles in 2017, with some room to dream on upside and potential.

Seriously, how great would it be for the Bears to swiftly make a move and cross three needs off the wish list by nabbing players believed to be their top options? Further, signing all three would do wonders for the Bears’ future recruiting efforts and could instill some confidence in the Bears’ front office from a fan base that desperately wants to erase last year’s free agency follies.

If the Bears were able to land that dream scenario, it would go a long way toward the team showing Chicago can (and will be) a prime destination for free agents.

Of course, it’s not going to be easy, especially with respect to Robinson, who is arguably the top receiver on the market:

Given that the Bears and 49ers are each trying to turn the corner on their tear-down-to-rebuild projects, it’s no surprise that there will be overlap in the free agents they’re eying. Moreover, after watching how Jimmy Garoppolo finished the year undefeated as a starter, the 49ers might have a narrative edge on a guy like Robinson.

Still, what stands out most here might be Robinson’s reference to the Jaguars as “their team” and not “our team.” The Jaguars are holding out hope for keeping Robinson, but I’m not sure the feeling is as mutual as it once was … especially after Jacksonville passed on using the franchise or transition tag to keep him.

Stay tuned. Football’s hot stove is heating up quickly. And if the Bears could somehow manage to pull down that particular trio this week? Ooh. I’m starting to feel tingly.
