Mitch Trubisky is Loving His New-Look, Quarterback-Friendly Surroundings

Chicago Bears News

Easing Mitch Trubisky into his rookie season with the Chicago Bears was never going to be easy. After all, there was a looming threat of a lame-duck head coach and offensive staff almost immediately upon his arrival.

GM Ryan Pace cleaned house and brought in a new offensive coaching staff to lead Trubisky (and the Bears) into a new era. And it sounds like Trubisky is loving the changes around him.

“I have so many brilliant quarterback minds around me,” Trubisky said in an interview on the Bernstein and McKnight Show on 670 The Score. “The experience they have is invaluable. I’m trying to be a sponge in that room and gain as much information. I can’t appreciate more how they help me day in and day out.”

The experience around Trubisky is considerably different now than it was at this time last year. Think about it. Dowell Loggains was the only offensive coach with any experience calling plays at any level during Trubisky’s rookie season, and Dave Ragone was the only other staff member with a significant background in coaching quarterbacks. Fast forward a year and you’ll note the Bears’ head coach and offensive coordinator have play calling experience and an extensive history with developing quarterbacks. This is no coincidence.

By beefing up the coaching staff responsible for getting the most out of Trubisky, the Bears quarterback will enter training camp with more confidence than he did when he walked onto the campus of Olivet Nazarene University at this time last year. And if all else fails, he has a better situation to fall back on with Matt Nagy, Mark Helfrich, and Ragone in his corner. Not to mention consultant Brad Childress and backup signal callers Chase Daniel and Tyler Bray.

The Bears are in a good situation with their quarterback … and he knows it.
